CLOAK (Guest Performance)
“CLOAK is a choreography for four female dancers, voice and Vardiphone - a unique handmade electric string instrument developed by composer Hallvardur Ásgeirsson.
Audience is invited to witness a live procession where a company of performers travel through stages of physical tasks and challenges that all rely on and explore togetherness:
Sharing space in the conditions and possibilities of the live flesh – chanting, shaking, whirling, trancing, dancing. Stillness.
In CLOAK, inspiration was drawn from mystic religious traditions of Islam. In these traditions, such as the Sufi (Dervish) tradition, intense physical actions are practiced in order to “drop one’s cloak”, to challenge constraints of ego and surrender to a universal source of tenderness.
