Panel Talk: Sámi Films Rising

At NIFF, we’re in love with Sámi filmmaking. And we’re rooting big time for all of the films that have come out of the Sámi film industry in recent years. It used to be a feature film every ten years – now it’s at least one every year, with more short films, documentaries, and even TV-drama series on the horizon. Together with Liisa Holmberg, the CEO of the Arctic Indigenous Film Fund, Anne Lajla Utsi, the manager of the International Sámi Film Institute, and Åse Kathrin Vuolab, the filmmaker behind the new Sámi comedy series A Sámi Wedding - which is premiering at NIFF - we dive into the successes of Sámi cinema, and we look ahead towards a future where we will hopefully see more Greenlandic-Sámi collaborations on the big screen.
