Historic Day for Greenland: Katuaq Celebrates the Opening of the New Airport in Nuuk
28. November 2024
On November 28, 2024, Greenland will make history. An Atlantic flight will land for the first time at the newly built international airport in Nuuk. This long-awaited event marks a significant step forward for Greenland’s infrastructure and tourism.
Katuaq, Greenland’s cultural center, plays a central role in the celebration. After the plane touches down, Greenland Airports will host a grand ceremony with over 150 invited guests at Katuaq.
Katuaq will provide entertainment, a three-course meal, and service. The event not only marks the opening but also symbolizes the many opportunities the new airport brings—easier travel, increased accessibility, and a boost to Greenland’s cultural scene.
Cultural Experiences in Focus
“This is an exciting future for all of us,” says Ivaaq Kriegel, Director of Katuaq. “We are ready to welcome travelers with unique cultural, artistic, and culinary experiences. The new airport allows us to expand our events.”
The new airport in Nuuk has been a dream for both citizens and travelers for years, and now it is a reality. With this opening, Nuuk becomes a key hub for international traffic, and Katuaq is ready to be part of this journey by bringing culture and art closer to the world.
This historic day marks the beginning of a new era for Greenland—one where the world comes closer, and Greenland’s rich culture and natural beauty become more accessible to visitors from around the globe.
