Elastomania - Martin Brandt Hansen
Elastomania explores the intricate interplay between Inuit cultural heritage and the evolving social dynamics of modern Greenland. The title reflects two core concepts: "Elasto," symbolizing the extraordinary adaptability of the paleo-Inuit, who honed their resilience to survive the harsh Arctic conditions over centuries and the ongoing flexibility that contemporary Greenlandic society continues to experience, and "Mania," evoking the psychological and social complexities that characterize the current state of Greenlandic society.
This exhibition delves into the mental and social challenges faced by modern Greenland, a society still grappling with the impacts of mass-culture, globalism and post-colonialism.
The artworks reflect on the deep-seated cultural, technological, and systemic structures that continue to influence and shape the Greenlandic experience today, portraying a community in flux, where historical resilience meets the evolving legacy of colonial disruption.
