Poet
Minik Hansen is a poet and songwriter for the band Sauwestari, who play Greenlandic reggae music. Hansen himself has a collection of poems that have not yet been published, which will be read out at the event. The poems deal with life in Greenland, where words are often played with to create unexpected rhymes. In addition, Hansen is not afraid to take up serious topics about the society we live in and to delve into the emotional topics. Hansen writes mostly poems in Greenlandic, which he translates and adapts to English, so the core of the message is preserved while still rhyming. Hansen also has poems in Danish.
Minik hansen won Poetry Slam 2014 in Katuaq and has since been invited to read poems at several events. This summer, Minik Hansen read poems for Greenland's national day on national TV - KNR. In 2019, Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq sent a Christmas card to all the municipality's employees which contained a Christmas poem by Minik Hansen.
Poet
Paarnaq Rosing Jakobsen, 34 years old, is a mother, wife and independent therapist.
The poems that I am reading this evening were written 10 years ago, when I lived in Aarhus and was studying to become a psychologist. Back then I used to say that I was born and raised in Nuuk, but grew into an adult in Aarhus. Therefore, the poems are about personal development.
Since we were children, my father always said that the paper and the pencil are our best friends, in the dark times. The poems are thus about the personal development that takes place in the dark times, when you come through to the light.
The poems are a selection from a collection of poems: "Taartumi sulugissarpoq", which will be published soon.
