SKIN STORIES IN GREENLAND
The Story of Skin in Greenland” is a photography-based exhibition at Katuaq, aiming to raise greater awareness about skin conditions and the people living with them.
Skin conditions can affect both quality of life and self-perception. For many, it is not only about physical discomfort, but also about psychological and social consequences such as low self-esteem, stigmatization, and limited participation in everyday activities. In the Greenlandic healthcare system, skin conditions account for up to 20% of all consultations, underlining the need for knowledge about skin conditions both among healthcare professionals and in society as a whole.
Paninnguaq Boassen and Mathilde Tuborg are behind the project's idea and concept. The portraits are created in a Greenlandic context with Greenlandic participants who have generously chosen to share a part of their story. Each story is unique, but they share the desire to be seen as whole people.
The purpose of Hudfortællinger i Grønland (Skin Stories in Greenland) is to increase awareness of skin conditions in Greenland and contribute to greater understanding and openness, so fewer people experience feeling stigmatized because of their skin condition.
