Kittat, The Sewing Workshop in Nuuk works with preserving the Greenlandic national costume and traditional crafting techniques.
Three staff members, Nadia, Aviaq, and Johanne, from Kittat are participating in Qooqqut Festival, where they will host workshops based on various Greenlandic craft traditions. Through their work, they emphasize preserving, passing on, and sharing knowledge about the traditional techniques associated with the national costume.
At our workshops, you can try Avittat, a traditional technique of skin embroidery where participants among other things make bracelets, as well as Allapalaat, an embroidery technique used in connection with the Greenlandic national costume.
During the workshops, Kittat's team will present materials, techniques, and the cultural background of the craft while guiding participants along the way. No prior experience is required to participate, making the workshops well suited for beginners.
During the festival, Johanne and Nadia will also be wearing Greenlandic national costumes.
