HH Suersaq & Sylvia Cloutier - Throat singing
Katajjaq is a traditional way of throat singing among Inuit women that was practiced as a game in nomadic times when the men went out hunting. When we sing we imitate the sounds of nature and carry out melodies for our children to show our love for them. As we sing together in pair we share energy and breath to carry out a song and make music just like our ancestors did.
Our workshop will introduce our audience to the stories and meaning behind the songs as our Inuit elders from Nunavik have taught us. All ages are welcome to join us!
