FRITT FALL
Frítt fall played their first concert at Vetrarjazz 2024, an annual festival held in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. The trio consists of Kresten Osgood, one of the leading Danish jazz drummers who has collaborated with many legends including Roscoe Mitchell, Sam Rivers, Derek Bailey, and Peter Brötzmann; Bárður Reinert Poulsen, a Faroese bassist who has toured the world with Espen Berg Trio, Wako, Flukten, and others; and Kristian Blak, a pianist who has made a significant contribution to Faroese music history.
Their debut album – "Deus Ex Machina" – was released this year, featuring eight improvised pieces that take the listener through various landscapes, some bright, others dark. The combination of the three musicians, though each has their own distinct voice, evokes imagery of Nordic nature.
However, the music sometimes carries a humorous angle, stemming from the joy of playing. When Frítt fall performs in Greenland in the autumn of 2026, they will be joined by two guest musicians. Mike Thomsen (GL) has previously played with the trio in the Faroe Islands. He blends vocals and drum dancing into the music, taking the listener into another world. Maria Faust from Estonia plays the saxophone. Faust is an award-winning composer and saxophonist known worldwide for her expression as an improviser.
