Shazia Khan is a photographer who also works with audio storytelling and portraiture. She was born and raised in Denmark, with roots in both Pakistani and Danish culture.
Her photo series, reportage work, and podcasts focus on people and places you otherwise rarely hear about—often marginalized and outside conventional categories.
Siulit – Ancestors with title "We are here now" is a project created by Shazia Khan that portrays people in Denmark with roots in Greenland—some living lives that span Greenland, Denmark, and other countries. The project grew out of a desire to challenge the one-sided and stereotypical portrayal of people with Inuit and other minority backgrounds, and to show that identity is complex and multifaceted.
Shazia Khan has long felt a strong connection to people from Greenland, where there is space to be who you are. A recent artist residency in Uummannaq, where she worked with young people and photography, opened up new perspectives and strengthened her sensitivity to other ways of seeing the world.
