Laakkuluk
Laakkuluk is an award-winning filmmaker, performance artist, poet, actor, storyteller and writer based in Iqaluit, Nunavut. She is known internationally for performing uaajeerneq, which involves storytelling and centers three elements: fear, humour and sexuality. Laakkuluk describes uaajeerneq as both a political and cultural act and an idiosyncratic art form. Upon giving her the 2021 Sobey Award, the largest art prize given internationally, the award jury said that her "performance practice courageously defies preconceived notions through embodied lived experience."
