Come meet Cheikhou Diarra, who will talk about his homeland and his work with traditional dance and drumming. Together with organizer and dancer Marie Navarana Biisgård—who is herself half Greenlandic and, through her work with Senegalese drum dance, was inspired to explore her own heritage more deeply—they present an atmospheric performance and invite dialogue.
In a subsequent panel discussion, they will focus on Senegalese and Greenlandic drum dance, culture, and identity. A representative of the Greenlandic drum dance tradition will also participate. How can two cultures with great geographical distance share common features through drum dance? What do these traditions mean for community and history today?
After the event, you will have the opportunity to try Senegalese drum dance yourself in a workshop open to everyone—regardless of experience. They promise warmth in the body and smiles on your face.
The event is for everyone and is about community across cultures and continents.
